New Hobbit Lego Reveals a LOT About the Movie – moviepilot.com

Original article

When it comes to Lego, there aren’t too many ways of making it any greater than it already is. Certainly, if you’d asked my eight-year old self whether there was anything better, I’d have laughed in your face, and gone back to building my own multicolored X-Mansion.

And then, Lego started making licensing deals with some of the geekiest, coolest and all-around most awesome entertainment brands around. And, suddenly, not only could you have a Lego Luke Skywalker, a Lego Captain America and a Lego Batman – you could have Lego Lord of the Rings minifigs, too…

And, so, my eight-year old self was proved wrong, in the very best way possible.

And now, Lego are taking it one step further – as their new line of playsets for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies proves, they sometimes even tease major plot events…from films that haven’t been released yet.

So – prompted by the awesome breakdown on TheOneRing.net[1] – I thought I’d take a look at some of the most awesome details of the upcoming Battle of the Five Armies that its Lego sets are hiding.

Note, potential SPOILERS just…everywhere, below…

For instance…

The Lego The Lonely Mountain Set

Included Minifigs:

Smaug the Dragon, Dwalin, Balin, Bilbo Baggins, Kili, Fili.

The Biggest Questions for the Movie:

Why are Fili and Kili at The Lonely Mountain? Why is Smaug at The Lonely Mountain? Why does nothing make sense any more?

The Lego Battle of the Five Armies Set

Included Minifigs:

Dain II Ironfoot, Azog the Defiler, Thorin Oakenshield, 2 x Gundabad Orcs, Bard the Bowman, Gwaihir the Windlord, Legolas Greenleaf.

The Biggest Questions for the Movie:

Why is The Battle of The Five Armies in Dale? I mean, that’s awesome – and Peter Jackson’s already hinted at it – but still… Also, why don’t I already own a Dain minifig?

The Lego Witch-King Battle Set

Included Minifigs:

Elrond, Galadriel, The Witch-king of Angmar.

The Biggest Questions for the Movie:

Where the heck is Gandalf? And, if he’s still trapped when this fight happens, are we going to see a whole other fight with Sauron?

The Lego Attack on Lake-Town Set

Included Minifigs:

Bard the Bowman, Bain son of Bard, Tauriel, 2 x Gundabad Orcs.

The Biggest Questions for the Movie:

Why wasn’t this a Desolation of Smaug playset? Is The Battle of the Five Armies just going to redo that entire scene? I mean, cool, but still…

The key thing here, though?

I still really want to play with them all…

Beowulf

Beowulf

Part of a new series Legends from the Ancient North , Beowulf is one of the classic books that influenced JRR Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings ‘So the company of men led a careless life, All was well with them: until One began To encompass evil, an enemy from hell. Grendel they called this cruel spirit…’ J.R.R. Tolkien spent much of his life studying, translating and teaching the great epic stories of northern Europe, filled with heroes, dragons, trolls, dwarves and magic. He was hugely influential for his advocacy of Beowulf as a great work of literature and, even if he had never written The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings , would be recognised today as a significant figure in the rediscovery of these extraordinary tales. Legends from the Ancient North brings together from Penguin Classics five of the key works behind Tolkien’s fiction. They are startling, brutal, strange pieces of writing, with an elemental power brilliantly preserved in these translations. They plunge the reader into a world of treachery, quests, chivalry, trials of strength. They are the most ancient narratives that exist from northern Europe and bring us as near as we will ever get to the origins of the magical landscape of Middle-earth (Midgard) which Tolkien remade in the 20th century.

New Clues Reveal How Billy Connolly’s Dain Ironfoot Will Look In The Hobbit 3 – moviepilot.com

Original article

Since the news that Scottish comedy legend Billy Connolly will be playing Dain Ironfoot in The Hobbit: The Battle of The Five Armies, we’ve all been wondering how the “Big Yin” would be transformed into a Dwarf.

Connolly himself has given several clues in interviews leading up to the film’s release in December, including that the production team are “basically making [him] wider” and that he has “a mohawk and tattoos on his head,” as well as claiming he’ll be arriving in battle on a pig.

Despite this, we have yet to see any images of Dain, which is curiosity-baiting to say the least. The good thing with blockbusters, however, is that they create merchandise. The Hobbit Lego happens to be released before the film itself, and the new set contains a miniature Dain.

It may not be a hi-res close up, but at least we get an idea of how Connolly will appear in the movie. It looks like he’ll have some hefty headgear, a red beard and awesome Mithril armor.

Now, I wonder if he’ll really ride into battle on a pig?

The Battle of The Five Armies will be released on the 17 December, 2014. Check out the trailer below:YIrwm68l
